The Twilight Zone: The Hand

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension- a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You’re moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You’ve just crossed over into THE TWILIGHT ZONE.

[The camera pans down from a star lit sky]

We are looking at a man who is in a hospital bed. A huge cloth bandage covers his right hand. The bandage is massive and there must be more than one bandage that is covering his hand. There is a doctor standing beside his bed and the two men are conversing.

Dr: I think we may have been able to save your hand. As you can see, we had to bandage it quite heavily. During your recovery period, we kept you asleep. Do you remember the accident?

Man: [still kind of groggy from the Anastasia] Some of it I remember, but not all of it. I do remember that I had too much to drink that night. You know, I’ve been having problems with my girlfriend. Anyway, I went to the shop drunk. I guess I was asking for trouble.

Dr: [Sympathetic] Nobody asks to lose his hand, Eric. It’s unfortunate that you had to suffer such a horrific accident, but it was also your lucky day that there was a good Samaritan passerby would acted quickly or you might have not survived.

Eric: How long have I been here?

Dr: Well, as you know, in a case such as yours, there is not always an available replacement, so what we do nowadays is place the patient in suspended animation until such time that an organ or body part becomes available. When I think back to the way things were years ago, I have to feel sorry for the people back then.

Eric: I guess modern technology is a Godsend. So, how long did it take to find me a new hand?

Dr: Six weeks. I’ll bet you are surprised, eh?

Eric: It didn’t even feel like six seconds. One moment I remember being brought here, and the next, well, here I am, in this bed with a bandage the size of the state of Texas on my hand.

Dr: Soon it will be time to take the bandages off and see where we stand. [The Dr. takes a few steps closer to the bed] Eric, you know that these types of operations are not always successful. Sometimes the new hand will function as if it was there from your birth, although that would take a long time, while other times things won’t go as smoothly. I just want you to be mentally prepared for any and all possibilities.

Eric: I am Dr. I know that I may have a long and painful rehab in front of me. You’ve all taken very good care of me, and for that I am thankful.

Dr: [Takes out a pair of sharp scissors] Ok, just hold still.

We hear the moderator speak

Submitted for your approval, Mr. Eric Green. As you can see, Mr. Green is in the hospital, the survivor of a horrific accident. Modern technology has allowed the doctors to attach a replacement hand to Mr. Green’s arm. That hand is hidden by a maze of bandages. In just a moment, we’ll remove those bandages and follow Mr. Green, as he walks right into the Twilight Zone.

[Camera fades back in]

Dr: Now just hold still and relax. This will only take a few minutes.

The doctor snips some of the bandage away and unwraps it. There are more bandages underneath, so he has to repeat this procedure quite a few times. We can see the tension on Eric’s face, as he wonders to himself whether or not he will have full use of his new hand. Finally, the Dr. speaks.

Dr: Ok Eric. This is the last bandage. When I unwrap it, we will see how things have turned out. I wish you the best of luck.

The doctor cuts the last of the bandages with the scissor and slowly unwraps it. We can now see Eric’s hand.

Dr: Can you move your hand?

Eric: [Facial expression shows strain] Yes, a little, but it hurts.

Dr: That’s Ok Eric. It’s Ok that it hurts. It’s a very positive sign that you can move it so soon. Usually, the hand is totally immobile for at least the first few days. I must say that I am very surprised by this to say the least.

Eric: [Smiling] So am I doc, so am I.

Dr: Well, I’d best be getting to the rest of my patients. You’ll be able to leave the hospital tomorrow morning. If you experience any pain or abnormalities, please call me immediately.

Eric: Abnormalities? What would those be?

Dr: Well, abnormalities are rare, but in some cases, the rest of the body might still reject the hand. Eric, you will know if there is a problem, trust me on that. For now, lets just focus on the positive, OK? Now, I’d best be on my way. I don’t think you will experience anything that will be of any great concern.

Eric: Thanks Doctor for everything. [Eric reaches out and shakes the doctors hand, with his new right hand]

Dr: [Jumps back, a look of fear on his face] My God man, how did you do that? How did you grip my hand with that much force?

Eric: I don’t know doc, it just happened.

Dr: Listen Eric, this has never happened before. I will need to see you again, within the next week or so to see how you are doing.

Eric: Ok, I’ll call and make an appointment next week

Dr: Take care and I’ll see you soon.

Eric: See ya doc.

As the doctor exits, the camera slowly pans down to show us Eric’s hand. Eric flexes it slowly at first, as the camera moves closer to his hand. The slow flexes now increase and as we are looking at an extreme close-up of Eric’s hand, we see that the opening and closing of his hand is going very quickly, we can barely follow its motion.

[Fade to black]

[Fade back in]

Eric is now on the phone. He is back at home now and he seems to be fine.

Eric: Tom, the hand feels great. It’s as if this is the hand I was born with. The doctor had told me that I’d be in for a pretty long rehab, but that has not been the case. I guess I’ve been very lucky. [Eric pauses as he listens to what his friend is saying] No, I haven’t decided what I’m going to do about Marcia. It seems when it comes to her, I can’t do anything right. Mark, it’s because of that bitch that I lost my hand. You know how she is always giving me that shitty ass attitude of hers. Well, that’s why I took that drink and went to the shop that night. That is why I was cutting some glass, lost my balance and had my hand sawed right off the bone. [Eric listens again] Sure, I still love her, but whatever I do for that broad, it’s simply not enough. She is coming over today and I’m going to try and talk some sense into her one more time. [Eric looks down and sees his hand is now tapping his leg. He strains as he tries to stop the hand for smacking his leg, but he is unable to stop the motion] Mark, I’ve got to get going. Bye. [Eric hangs up the phone, now more than a little bit nervous about the sudden "mind of it’s own," that his hand has suddenly found. As Eric continues to look at his hand, we hear the ring of the doorbell.]

Eric: Come on in, it’s open

[The door swings open and we see Marcia enter the house. She is about five foot three, one hundred pounds and she is wearing a short black skirt. Her long blonde hair goes past her shoulders and half way down her back]

Marcia: Hi Eric. How is your hand?

Eric: Oh, it’s fine I guess. I mean it’s doing much better than the doctor had thought possible.

Marcia: Well, that is good to hear Eric. I am glad that you are feeling OK.

Eric: So, do you want to go out for dinner, or I could order in?

Marcia: No, I’m not going to stay that long Eric. I just wanted to see how you were doing.

Eric: So, you are still angry with me?

Marcia: Well, what do you think?

Eric: I think you over react to things. I think you need to take a chill pill.

Marcia: Eric, why don’t you simply go fuck yourself? Do you think I’m going to start kissing your ass just because you had an accident? I’m sorry that you hurt yourself, but that doesn’t mean that I’m going to start kissing your ass Eric. You talk a big game, always telling me that I’d better behave myself. Your not man enough to make me behave and you know it. You are a mouse. You were a mouse before you got your hand hacked off and you’re a mouse now.

[As a frustrated Marcia continues to berate Eric, the camera gives us a close up of his hand, which is now shaking quite violently. The camera pans back up and we see Eric’s face, which is not one of a man who is at all a mouse]

Eric: That does it. You want to see what kind of a mouse I am?

[Eric stands up and walks toward Marcia who is now breathing heavily. There is a mixture of fear and sexual excitement that her body language does not hide]

Marcia: Eric, you stay away from me. Eric!!

We watch as Eric takes Marcia and turns her over his lap. His hand is still shaking and Eric is looking toward his hand even as he is taking his bratty girlfriend over his lap]

Eric: Now, I’m going to show you something, Missy.

[With that said, Eric begins to spank the naughty girl. His hand smacks her bottom fast and hard. It doesn’t take long until Marcia is kicking her legs and crying like a baby. During the spanking, the camera gives us a close up of Eric’s hand, which turns a very deep shade of red, as he is spanking Marcia. Eric delivers a few more spanks to the seat of his girlfriends skirt and then stops.]

Eric: Now get the fuck out of my house you bitch! I never want to see you again.

Marcia (Crying): Eric, please I’m sorry. I won’t ever talk to you like that again, honey. Never. Just give me another chance. I’ve wanted you to spank me for months now. I tried everything to get you to do it, and you finally did!!!

Eric: [Smiling now] And I will do it from now on, any time you step out of line, my dear.

The Camera slowly distorts the picture, as the two of them start kissing, sex is sure to follow. When the camera returns us to a clear picture, we are now once again in the doctors office. He is speaking with another physician, who’s name is Steven.

Dr: I’m telling you Steven, I’ve never seen a hand that needed zero rehab. It was simply amazing.

Steven: And to think, that hand came from that erotic author who wrote all of those bizarre spanking stories for Paddle Pain.

Dr: [Laughing] Yeah, I guess that hands days of just writing spanking stories is over.

Camera slowly pans up to the sky, into the night as the narrator speaks

It is said that a man has only one life to live, and that once that life is over, his death is the forever. Perhaps this is as it should be. But for one such man, who lent another man a hand from beyond the grave, his love of spanking lives on, for this is the Twilight Zone.
